About the Ride
This blog will chronicle my attempt to bicycle across the continental United States: from Yorktown, Virginia to Astoria, Oregon. I’m setting off on June 4th, 2007, and plan to be on the West Coast by the end of July. This assumes that, should I get lost, I will realize it in time to avoid disastrous hundred-mile detours — although if I manage to hit the West Coast at all, I will consider the trip a success!
I’m undertaking this mildly insane venture in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and in memory of my dad, who would have loved to have come along for the ride.
To contribute to my cause, click the “ChipIn” button to the right to get started. Every little helps! Please also read the small print below to get the details on where exactly your money will go.
Thanks!
A Note On Where The Money’s Going
Unfortunately, biking across the country isn’t free. Therefore, I will be withholding a small amount of each donation to cover some of my expenses.
Specifically, 20% of all contributions will go towards expenses, up to a $3,500 cap. This means that if I raise $10,000, I will put $2,000 toward expenses, and $8,500 will go to Leukemia and Lymphona. If I raise $25,000, I will put $3,500 toward expenses, and $21,500 will go to Leukemia and Lymphoma.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure out a way to allow donations to be tax deductible, yet still be able to cover expenses. If this is a deal-breaker for you, please consider donating directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society using their online donation form.
If you are interested in covering my expenses so that all donations can go directly to Leukemia and Lymphoma, please let me know!
