GPS no more

In another semi-tragic momentary loss of concentration, I misplaced my wonderful Garmin Edge bike computer / GPS unit.  I’m fairly certain I left it sitting on the ground outside the college library in Berea, Kentucky.  However, despite it’s relatively esoteric nature, it has yet to be turned in to either the Berea PD or to Berea College Security.

I would like to blame the loss on my preoccupation with locating beer during the time in question, but seeing as this is the second semi-crucial item I’ve managed to lose thus far on the trip, I think I’ll have to admit that I may have a little problem with setting things down and forgetting to pick them up again.

Unfortunately, this means that I am at least temporarily unable to gather the great data that’s been fueling the statistics section of this website (i.e. detailed route maps, elevation profiles, speed and cadence data, etc.)  I hope to somehow acquire a replacement before too long — don’t hold your breath, but I’ll keep you posted.

Samantha, first time I’ve logged on. what fun you seem to be having. glad you now know how it feels to be follicly challenged. love your tales, wonderfully and wittily composed and can hear Simon in nearly every word . will make regular trips to yr web site from now on. off to NY on 4th July myself and then to SF. keep pedalling; lots of love, John

Hi Samantha,
Have been greatly enjoying reading your diary regularly. What a bummer about losing the GPS and even more in losing your riding partner, hopefully you may find another along the way. Can’t believe you cycled 145 miles in one day!! Thighs of steel. Have forwarded your website details to Jonny in the hope he may have some suggested stopping off points along the way, although it sounds as though you’re doing quite well for local hospitality. Luck and love from rainy London, the Hepburns
